Going Coastal

The recession is still kicking, the holidaze are weeks away and people are wearing capris and flip flops. Is there a better time to partake in Portsmouth Restaurant Week? The dining deals in the Port City started yesterday and continue through Sunday. There are loads of delectable bistros in this pretty city, but my newest favorite is not in Portsmouth at all. It's in Exeter. Epoch located in the Exeter Inn has that of-the-moment feel. Executive Chef Ben Hasty learned to braise from renown French Laundry chef Thomas Keller and (at the fork-tender age of 25) is making Southern New Hampshire more feel like SoHo.
You know the drill, three-course dins for $29.95 and luxe lunch for $16.95. Anneke Jans in Kittery, ME has a cold-weather cream of cauliflower soup with bacon and cheddar crisps to get you started. Bounce over to Brazo for malbec-braised flank steak, cilantro and garlic whipped Yukon gold potatoes and cumin roasted carrots. Pisco sour fans will love the Latin/Cuban cocktails here. Don't forget to call a pedicab. Take the final plunge at the Dolphin Striker for a locally sourced cheese plate. Gluttony never felt this good.
